Charter of Residents Rights and Responsibilities
No matter which home you choose, your rights and responsibilities as a resident will be the same. These are outlined in the Charter of Residents’ Rights and Responsibilities and are included in legislation to ensure their protection. The resident agreement
After accepting a place in an aged care home and completing Part B of your application, the manager must offer you a resident agreement (more information). This is a legal document that sets out the terms of your residency in the home, and the rights and responsibilities of both you and the home.Read more: The Resident Agreement
Can I participate in the way the home is run?
As a resident, you (or your carer, friend or family) have the right to participate in decisions about the services that you receive. If you’d like to be involved, ask your aged care home how they make sure that you can have your say on the running of the home. The options might include regular ‘resident meetings’ at which all residents can express their views, or an appointment with a staff member to discuss your own care and choices.Common questions on this topic:
