Palliative Care Australia – the national peak body for palliative care.

The National Respite for Carers Program

The National Respite for Carers Program allows carers of older people, people needing palliative care and people with disabilities to have a break to look after their own health and well-being, with the comfort of knowing that their dependants are well looked after.

Carers Australia

Carers Australia represents carers of people with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition or those who are frail or aged. It also provides information, support, education, training and counselling.

National Palliative Care Program

The National Palliative Care Program is funded by the Australian Government to improve access to, and quality of, palliative care services in Australia. For more information email: palliativecare@health.gov.au

Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres

You can get more information and assistance from your Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222. These centres provide information, support services and education programs for carers from a variety of different cultural backgrounds. They can also refer you to services and provide practical written information to support you in your caring role.

Volunteers Australia

To get in touch with local volunteers who may be able to help out at home, contact Volunteering Australia by calling 03 9820 4100.

There is also a regular, friendly visiting scheme for people in aged care homes who feel isolated or lonely. It’s called the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS). Contact your local Commonwealth Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222 for more information.

Translation services

The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)on 13 14 50 (for the cost of a local call) if you need assistance in a language other than English. They will connect you to theCommonwealth Carer Resource Centre and interpret for you.
