Compensable residents

What if my income is derived from compensation?

You may need to enter an aged care home because of an accident or another event. If you are entitled to compensation, the government may not subsidise your residential care (more information). When you move in, you should advise the home if you have a compensation claim that is pending or has been settled.

If your claim is still pending (awaiting decision), you are eligible for a subsidy that will be recovered once your claim is settled. From the date of your settlement, in addition to your resident fees and charges, you may be asked to contribute to the subsidy payable on your behalf until the compensation amount determined for your future care has been expended. At this point, the subsidy will be fully reinstated.

If your claim was settled before you move in, you may be asked to contribute to the subsidy payable on your behalf from the date you move in, in addition to your resident fees and charges, until the amount determined for your care costs has been expended. At this point, the subsidy will be fully reinstated.
