Aged Blind Pensioner

Because Aged Blind Pensions are not means-tested, if you have one and you are assessed as needing to enter an aged care home, it will be under the same conditions as those for non-pensioners and self-funded retirees.

Read more: About non-pensioner or self-funded retirees

You will need to supply details of your income and assets to Centrelink (more information) or, for veterans - the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), to establish the level of income-tested fee you will be required to pay. You may also wish to apply to Centrelink or DVA for an assets assessment (more information). This will help you in negotiating with an aged care home on the amount of accommodation charge or accommodation bond you might be asked to pay.

If you choose not to supply your income and asset details, you may be asked to pay the maximum care fees or the cost of the level of care you’re receiving, whichever is the lesser amount.
