Building quality
The Australian Government certifies aged care homes against set building quality standards. The process is based on a home’s ability to provide suitable accommodation and care for its residents. The decision to certify a service is based on the standard of the buildings and equipment of the home, as well as other factors.
Certification is aimed at improving the physical quality of aged care home buildings, including fire safety and privacy and space requirements. For more information on certification, visit the Department of Health and Ageing website.
Under the Aged Care Act 1997 a service must be certified in order to be able to charge accommodation bonds (more information) or accommodation charges (more information) or receive concessional resident supplements (more information).
