Can I change my room?
If you want to change rooms, ask the manager of your aged care home. These requests have to be considered, even if it isn’t possible to give you another room immediately.
In thinking about people moving rooms, the manager has to take into account the overall operation of the home, as well as things such as the terms of your resident agreement (more information).
Can the home make me move rooms?
There are a few circumstances when you could be moved to another room, without requesting the change:- You may be moved to another bed or another room in the home if you agree to the move after being fully consulted and without being pressured.
- You may be moved if it is necessary for genuine medical reasons. You would be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT or ACAS in Victoria) or at least two medical or other health practitioners to see whether a move would be of benefit.
- If your room in the home changes to extra servicei and you choose not to pay the additional costs, you may be moved to another room.
- If there are repairs or improvements to the aged care home, you may be moved to another room.
