Carer Allowance
The Carer Allowance provides an income supplement payment for people who provide daily care for someone with a disability or severe medical condition. It can be paid on top of the Carer Payment or an Age Pension (more information).
Basic conditions
To qualify for Carer Allowance:- the person you care for has to have a disability that causes substantial difficulties in functioning, and
- both you and the person you care for must be Australian residents.
Basic rate payable
The Carer Allowance makes a basic payment of $98.50 per fortnight, which may be paid in addition to an income support payment.
It does not include assistance with rent. Neither is it income or assets tested.

Centrelink can also give you information about Rent Assistance, the Age Pension and concession cards.They also provide an independent financial planning service that’s free, whether or not you’re receiving a pension or benefit.
