Day Therapy Centres information for carers
Day Therapy Centres provide you with a wide range of therapy services such as physiotherapy (more information), occupational and speech therapy (more information), podiatry (more information) and other therapies. Most are located in or near aged care homes.

Eligibility
Day Therapy Centre services are provided for older Australians who are frail and living in the community, or low care residents of a government-funded aged care home.Cost
There may be a fee for services provided by Day Therapy Centres. However, you will not be denied a service that you need based on an inability to pay.User Rights
Day Therapy Centre administrators and service providers have a responsibility to ensure that the person you are caring for is informed of their user rights and are consulted about any changes which may be required.Further user rights include:
- that the rights of the person you care for are acknowledged and respected
- that the centre’s program maintains the dignity and independence of the person you care for
- that your family member’s privacy is respected, and
- that they are treated as an individual – taking into account such things as cultural backgrounds and personal beliefs.
You can refer the person you care for, or be referred by:
- your doctor
- health or community care practitioners, or
- an aged care home.
Do you have a complaint?
If you have any concerns about the care being provided to the person you care for, it’s often best to raise your concerns with the service provider. When you first receive therapy services, the staff at the Centre should explain to you the best way to deal with matters of concern or complaints about the services they are receiving.Where complaints cannot be resolved with the Day Therapy Centre, you should be referred directly to your local Department of Health and Ageing.
