Maybe you’re wondering why you need to go through the process of being assessed. What’s the point and how does it benefit you?

How an ACAT can help

Some simple care needs can be helped through Commonwealth Carelink Centres (1800 052 222), but more complex needs or entry into an aged care home require the assistance of an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT, or ACAS in Victoria) (more information). There are many aged care services available across Australia and you have a lot of different choices. Members of ACATs have experience with the system and can help you make the best decisions for your future.

What do they assess?

When making an assessment, the ACAT members will look at all aspects of your situation and consider your medical, physical, psychological and social needs.
