What about my health and personal care?
The aged care home’s main concern is to look after your needs.
Once you have moved in, the home will discuss your care needs, and any other needs you might have, with you and your family members or friends, if you would like them to be involved.
Staff will develop a care plan (more information) for you to make sure that all the staff know what you need. You will be directly involved in drawing this up, and a family member or friend may take part. You may already have a care plan developed by a community nurse, care package provider, or a doctor and this will be taken into account.
You have the right to choose your own doctor. If your current doctor does not visit your aged care home, the home will help you choose another doctor. The home will help you to obtain any health care services you need, such as physiotherapy (more information), dental treatment, podiatry (more information) and other forms of care.
If you need to keep medical or other appointments outside the home, the home will help you to arrange transport. However the home does not pay for the transport. If this causes you difficulty, the home may be able to arrange for your practitioner to visit you instead.
