Who is care for?

The Australian Government aims to ensure access to subsidised residential aged care (more information) and community care (more information) for all older Australians who need care.

These services can take many forms, depending on your needs. For example, you may be managing well in your home and just want a bit of help with your garden. Or, at the other end of the spectrum, you might need 24-hour nursing services in an aged care home. You may also be a carer of a family member or friend and need help with their care needs, or you may need a break from caring.

In most instances, if you’re receiving these services and have some income, you’ll be asked to contribute towards the cost of services. This amount varies depending on the services required. However, it’s reassuring to know that if you have a concern about paying for the service you can discuss options with the aged care home or service provider. People from particular needs groups are supported so that access to aged care is equitable and no group is disadvantaged.
