Help with aged care homes

Common question

Question: Once I enter into care can I still have holidays with my family and friends?
Answer: You can leave your aged care home to spend time with family and friends for up to 52 nights each year, whenever you want - this is called social leave. When you are away overnight, the subsidy will still be paid. If you choose to take more leave than the 52 nights in any one year, your subsidy will not be paid for that extra time and your home may ask you to pay more. Time in hospital isn't counted as part of your social leave.
