Help with aged care homes

Common question

Question: What help does the government provide?
Answer: The Australian Government recognises that few residents can pay for the entire cost of the care they receive, so it provides substantial subsidies to assist with this cost. On average, the Australian Government currently contributes $42,879 a year for a high care (nursing home) resident and around $15,565 a year for a low care (hostel) resident. In addition, residents who face genuine financial hardship in paying their fees and charges may apply to the Department of Health and Ageing for consideration under financial hardship provisions of the Aged Care Act 1997.
