Common question
| Question: | My mother's dementia has become much worse recently and my father, who is her main carer, can no longer look after her. She has been assessed as needing high-level care in a home with facilities for people with dementia. But I don't know where to start and the situation is urgent. What can I do? |
| Answer: | If your mother has been assessed as needing high care and she is in urgent need of care, emergency short-term or respite care (more information) may be able to be arranged as a short term solution. Phone 1800 200 422 during business hours or, for emergency respite support outside standard business hours, call 1800 059 059 from anywhere in Australia. It is a good idea to start applying to suitable aged care homes to help ensure a permanent place. Next Steps: Find an aged care home using the Aged Care Home Finder |
