Common question
| Question: | I'm worried about Mum. She is losing her sense of perspective and fretting excessively about things she can't influence, like international events. What can I do? |
| Answer: | Encourage your mother to discuss her worries with her doctor. If you are concerned that she may have depression, anxiety or another mental illness, you can ask your general practitioner for an assessment, which may include referral to a psychiatrist or psychologist. The organisation beyondblue has useful resources on the definitions and symptoms of depression, anxiety and related disorders. For information about treatment options visit your GP.
