Common question
| Question: | Mum is in an aged care home and in the terminal stages of cancer. The home says they cannot look after her and that she has to go to hospital for treatment, but mum doesn't want to go. Can they insist? |
| Answer: | Your mum's Resident Agreement will set out the care unable to be provided by the home. Depending on the terms of the Resident Agreement, the decision to go to hospital for treatment is up to your mother, in consultation with her doctor. The aged care home should support the care required but, if a decision is made for her to go to hospital, her place must be kept for her at the home. Read more: Abour resident agreements |
