There is a Charter of Resident's Rights (more information) in the aged care legislation that recognises that a person's rights are not diminished when he or she enters an aged care home. Residents have the same rights as anyone else. These include the recognition that they have social needs, a right to make decisions and a right to privacy. The Charter also recognises that residents have a responsibility to exercise these rights in a way that does not adversely affect other residents. Talk to the home staff about provisions for couples and partners.
