Help with aged care homes

Common question

Question: What sort of accommodation and care is available in residential aged care homes?
Answer: Aged care homes offer low level care, high level care, ageing in place or extra service. High level care is provided for people who need almost complete assistance with most activities of daily living or require complex nursing care, while low level care provides support and assistance to people who have varying care needs, but do not have ongoing complex needs. Ageing in place caters for both high level and low level care and allows residents whose needs increase from low level to high level care to remain the same aged care home. Extra service homes provide additional accommodation benefits, for a higher fee than a regular aged care home. This might include larger rooms, private ensuites and wider meal selection. Care will be no different than a home not charging the extra service fees.
