Caring for someone in care

If you come to the stage where you decide to move your family member into an aged care home, you’ll be faced with many issues that may be unsettling. It’s never an easy decision and the transition is difficult for most people. For a start, there will be changes in your routine and lifestyle. For example, you may miss the companionship, but at the same time be relieved to have more time for yourself. You may also feel guilty or worried about what to do next.

If you’re considering an aged care home you may be wondering if you’re making the right decision and it’s quite normal for you to be asking yourself the following questions.

It can be hard to think about your own needs, but it’s important to be realistic and try to decide what’s best for everyone, including you. Only you can decide if the responsibility of caring is too much for you – and remember, there are still many ways to help care for your relative or friend even if they’re living in an aged care home.
